High Resolution Simulation of Galaxy Formation with Feedback
نویسندگان
چکیده
We present results from a Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamic (SPH) simulation of galaxy formation that exceeds the minimum resolution requirement suggested by Steinmetz & Muller (1993) of 3 × 10 SPH particles per galaxy. Using the multiple mass technique an effective resolution of a little over one billion particles is attained within a 48 Mpc cube. We find that even with an SPH mass resolution of 1.5 × 10 M⊙ and a plausible feedback algorithm, the cooling catastrophe continues to be a problem for Einstein-de Sitter CDM cosmologies. Increasing resolution also appears to exacerbate the core-halo angular momentum transport problem.

baryonic matter distribution in the large-scale structures is one of the main questions in cosmology. This distribution can provide valuable information regarding the processes of galaxy formation and evolution. On the other hand, the missing baryon problem is still under debate. One of the most important cosmological structures for studying the rate and the distribution of the baryons is gal...
متن کاملAGN Jet - induced Feedback in Galaxies . II . Galaxy colours from a multicloud simulation
We study the feedback from an AGN on stellar formation within its host galaxy, mainly using one high resolution numerical simulation of the jet propagation within the interstellar medium of an early-type galaxy. In particular, we show that in a realistic simulation where the jet propagates into a two-phase ISM, star formation can initially be slightly enhanced and then, on timescales of few mil...
متن کاملControl of Star Formation in Galaxies by Gravitational Instability
We present high resolution simulations of star formation in a wide range of disk galaxies, using a three-dimensional smoothed particle hydrodynamics code with an isothermal equation of state and no explicit feedback. Absorbing sink particles are inserted in high density regions to directly measure the mass of gravitationally collapsing gas. Despite the simplicity of our assumptions, our models ...

We used fully cosmological, high resolution N-body+SPH simulations to follow the formation of disk galaxies with a rotational velocity between 140 and 280 Km/sec in a ΛCDM universe. The simulations include gas cooling, star formation (SF), the effects of a uniform UV background and a physically motivated description of feedback from supernovae (SN). Feedback parameters have been chosen to match...
متن کاملFormation of an Early-type Galaxy from Cosmological Initial Conditions?
We describe a high resolution Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) simulation of a spheroidal galaxy starting from ΛCDM initial conditions which is intentionally simple, and includes photoionization and cooling of the intergalactic medium but not feedback from AGN or supernovae. The galaxy undergoes an initial burst of star formation at z ≈ 5, accompanied by the formation of a bubble of heated...
